I will have to get to the photos later...
Quick update before I depart for the Musee d'Orsay!
Arrived January 2nd and hit the immediate area surrounding my lodging. The following day (yesterday) we did a short walk around the area near us and found the local bread shops, cheese merchants and markets. In the afternoon, we did a bus tour of the city, seeing a quick version of all the places most come to see in Paris. This included the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame, Champs de Elysees, and Arc de Triomphe. I also got my first glimpse of the Palais Garnier!
It's so strange to go form photos to the actual thing, but even after a lot of study of where the building is, it was not what I expected! Which is great. Everything is so close together and it just appears. I knew we were coming toward it when we passed the Madeliene, which is on my list of visits on my Phantom Walking Tour.
I took video (horrible quality) while passing by it of the building at a 360 drive around with the narration of our group's tour woman. She was pretty funny... also speaks a bit on Phantom. The idiot answering which box the Phantom took up as his own was me, I am sure you can tell... hoping to edit it all together tonight and post it on the video portion.
Today, I will be going to Musee d'Orsay, as I mentioned before, and will be posting pictures of the Degas paintings there. This ties into the tying of his artwork in Andrew Lloyd Webber's verison of Phantom, and the ballet sequence which takes place just outside of Christine's dressing room during the Angel of Music scene.
Thanks for reading... preparing for a busy weekend going to Disneyland tomorrow (Saturday) and hopefully seeing a ballet at the Garnier on Sunday! I'm VERY excited for that!
