A Phantom in Paris
This site is dedicated to the story of the Phantom of the Opera.
Traveling in Paris already fills a tourist with many requirements of places to visit, but somebody who considers themselves a fan of Phantom of the Opera may have a different agenda. Mine was provoked by rereading Leroux's 1910 novel and finding two characters in the book that are often forgotten: Paris and the Opera. I collected a list of places in the book mentioned throughout Paris as well as within the Opera and packed them along with me, preparing to find traces of the Phantom in the city where it all took place. Leroux said it was all true, and while there are only so many facts which he truly did use, they still remain as clear evidence throughout the capitol city of France.
While the intent is to give a Leroux reader the chance to see what these places from the book look like, it also bends to take the story further, reaching it out to other versions and connections to the original novel. With the main pages of this site giving a tour of the Palais Garnier, the streets of Paris and places you can find other hints to the Phantom's story, it will also give a chance to show places other than Paris where the Phantom's trail has been laid from various versions the original story has produced.
I hope that you will find this webpage useful and informative, as well as interactive if you intend to travel to any places listed.
I do intend to continue adding to this webpage. I would like to complete a section of all the places one could potentially visit not only in the Garnier but anywhere else that is mentioned in the book, because there is much more than more tour which you could explore for yourself.
For all photos of this trip (sectioned by albums of titles in this webpage) please visit the photobucket account I made for this project.
